The physicians at Retina and Vitreous Associates have a long history of performing research studies on a local, regional, national and international level, often in collaboration with multiple other research centers, including the National Eye Institute. Below is a list of studies we are either performing right now, or have done in the past.

We are actively enrolling patients in the following studies:
  • Study Name: Veritas  
    Diagnosis Required: Wet Macular Degeneration  
    Nature of Study: Comparing the use of photodynamic therapy with Visudyne
    plus two different dose regimens of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide versus
    photodynamic therapy with Visudyne plus intravitreal Macugen in patients with subfoveal
    choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular
    degeneration.  
    Enrollment Dates: 2005-2006  
    Results Anticipated: 2008 or 2009
  • Study Name: AART (Anecortave Acetate Risk Reduction Trial)
    Diagnosis Required: Dry and wet macular degeneration
    Nature of Study: To determine if anecortave acetate (Retaane) can prevent dry macular degeneration from becoming wet macular degeneration in high risk patients
    Enrollment Dates: Now until mid-August 2004
  • Study Name: A Randomized Trial Comparing Intravitreal Triamcinolone Acetonide and Laser Photocoagulation for Diabetic Macular Edema
    Diagnosis Required: Diabetic macular edema
    Nature of Study: Comparing the use of laser versus a steroid injection to treat diabetic eye disease
    Enrollment Dates: 2005 - 2006
    Results Anticipated: 2007 or 2008
  • Study Name: Interval Dose Evaluation of Anecortave Acetate (IDEAA)
    Diagnosis Required: Wet Macular Degeneration
    Nature of Study: Comparing different doses of a new injectable agent for wet macular degeneration
    Enrollment Dates: 2005
    Results Anticipated: Late 2006 or 2007

  • Study Name: Eyetech Macugen Trial for Occult CNV
    Diagnosis Required: Occult choroidal neovascularization from wet macular degeneration
    Nature of Study: Injection of study medicine every 6 weeks to determine if vision can be stabilized or improved
    Enrollment Dates: 2003
    Results Anticipated: Late 2004 or 2005

  • Study Name: Anecortave Acetate Vs. Photodynamic Therapy for Predominately Classic CNV in Exudative AMD
    Diagnosis Required: Wet Macular Degeneration, Predominately Classic
    Nature of Study: Comparing a new injectable agent to photodynamic therapy for wet macular degeneration
